Bionic Chance favoured to level score

Bionic Chance gets her chance to level the score with her conqueror, Rostriever Hanover, in a re-cord-run Champion stakes at Ashburton last month, when the pair have a rematch in the $lO,OOO D.B. Timaru Challenge Stakes at the Timaru Hamess Racing Club’s twilight meeting this evening. Rostriever Hanover showed his class by taking out the Champion Stakes in 3:1.2 (2400 mobile) — his fourth win on end — when he outfinished Bionic Chance by a length and a half, however the Lauriston-trained filly was having her first start since July.

The brilliant daughter of Majestic Chance and Bionic Star showed with her slick win in 1:58.78 over a mile at Addington Raceway on Monday that she is better than ever. She had little luck when fifth in Frangelico’s Standardbred Breeders’ Stakes on the first night of the Canterbury Park New Year meeting eight days ago.

Bionic Chance went to the line uhextended on Monday and looked capable of going considerably faster if pushed.

Rostriever Hanover is likely to make her work hard today, but Bionic Chance should be seasoned enough now to re-

pulse the Ashburton gelding’s challenge. It is a disappointment for the club that the field has been reduced to seven starters. However, Spangled Chance, third behind Rostriever Hanover and Bionic Chance at Ashburton, albeit seven and three-quarter lengths away, and Speedy Cheval, are others which give added strength to the small field.

The Challenge Stakes is the first leg of the T.A.B. treble this evening, with Trifecta (Bailey Mazda Mobile Pace) and Uncle Jasper (Larry Williams Mobile Pace) leading chances in the last two legs.
