Reveller hacked at door, Court told
PA Wellington A New Year reveller hacked at a front door with a tomahawk because he believed someone was being raped inside, the District Court at Wellington was told. Glen William Iles, aged 30, had been talking to people at the party in Titahi Bay and convinced himself a girl was being raped upstairs, the prosecutor, Sergeant Kevin Tunnell, said. Iles, also of Titahi Bay, went to tell the police and returned with a to-
mahawk. He then began chopping at the front door. The police - arrived soon after and restrained Iles, but found no evidence of the alleged rape.’ Iles told the police: “If someone had not arrived I would have tom the top storey of the building apart.” Iles was fined $5O after he pleaded guilty to damaging the door. He was ordered to pay $38.50 costs.
A compensation order of $4O was also made to the owner of the house.
