New mast for KZ7

NZPA staff correspondent Fremantle New Zealand’s America’s Cup entry KZ7 has been fitted with a new mast, a BNZ Challenge spokesman said yesterday. Peter Debreceny said the mast was fitted over the week-end and the crew went out sailing with it yesterday. They were to have done so on Monday, but did not because of the high winds.

The mast had been tested on KZ7’s sparring partner, KZS, during the previous week. j The mast is the last one produced by the ad hoc company, Naspar, and was completed in November. Naspar was set up in Fremantle in August with a foreman and 12 volunteers from New Zealand after delays with delivery times from England for spars.
