AUSTRALIA Sixth consecutive record

NZPA-AAP Sydney Australian share markets reached their sixth consecu-tive-record close as general bullishness combined with a shortage of stock buoyed prices, across the boards. BHP rose to record levels on speculation of another bid by Bell Resources or Elders IXL. Media stocks also remained firm, although there was selective profit-taking as investors awaited developments in the take-over battles for Herald and Weekly Times and Queensland Press. Rises outpaced falls 383 to 209 as national turnover reached a high 127.2 million shares worth sAust2ol.l million. BHP closed 12c higher at 924 and reached a record 936, adjusted for bonus issues, in earlier trade.
