Chapter 1: Picton to Wellington It all started when we were waiting for the new ferry Arahura. We were in our Morris Marina and then finally the ferry came.
It was a terrible and rough sailing. We were sailing through a 50-knot wind. We found a quiet room called the music lounge. We had a sleep instead of playing and having fun on the ferry. We were sailing towards Wellington and the captain said: “All passengers aboard this vessel who are travelling in a car please report to the Arahura car deck.”
So we walked out of the music lounge and headed towards the car deck. Then it only took about 20 minutes to get to the Wellington Ferry Terminal. When we arrived we saw the other ferry Aratika, the old ferry. As soon as we got out we quickly found a Wellington radio station, 2ZB, on the car radio. The ferry had left Picton about 7.45 p.m. and we arrived in Wellington at 11.15 p.m.
Chapter 2: Wellington to Wanganui Soon we were heading for Wanganui. I was awake all the way to Wanganui. As soon as we got into Wanganui, a sign said: “Welcome to Wanganui, Follow Arrows.” But there were arrows all over the place. We found a hamburger bar called “BeBops” and we rang Dad’s friend, Murray Brindson.
We waited for him for about 10 minutes and he came. It was 2.15 a.m.
We went to his house for the night. Chapter 3: Wanganui to Hamilton We left Wanganui on Saturday afternoon at 2. We finally reached Hamilton, which took us six hours. We rang Barry Hayes, Dad’s friend. On Monday we went to Raglan. On Tuesday we stayed at home and watched Dad and Barry trail-riding. On Wednesday we went fishing out near Coromandel.
Chapter 4: Hamilton to Napier On Thursday it was time to go to Napier. We arrived in Napier four hours later and the time was 3 p.m. This is what we did: • On Friday we rested and Mum and Dad saw my uncle. • On Saturday Dad helped my uncle move out. • On Sunday we went to McDonald s. • On Monday we went to Marineland. •On Tuesday I played with my cousins. • On Wednesday we got ready to go home.
Chapter 5: Last Leg On Thursday it was time to go back home.
It was 5 a.m. when we left. We also returned on the Aratika. It was calm and sunny.
When we were going toward Picton, the captain of the Aratika said: “All passengers aboard this vessel travelling in a car please report to the B or C garage on the Aratika car deck.” So we drove out of the ferry and headed home.
