Vietnam poll Vietnam will hold General Elections in April to choose a new legislature, and the assembly’s immediate task will be to name Heads of State and Government, says Vietnamese State radio. President Truong Chinh and the Council of State met last Saturday to prepare for the elections, the third since Vietnam was unified in 1975.—Bangkok. Iran flood toll Known deaths in floods in southern Iran ’ last month have reached 424, with financial losses estimated at more than $2.8 billion. The head of the Prime Ministry’s relief headquarters said 1324 small villages — a total of 10,893 houses — had been destroyed. Another 15,900 houses, plus 3590 schools, 150 clinics, 1749 km of roads and 1160 bridges had been damaged.— Teheran. Bishop knits Britain’s knitting bishop, Richard Rutt, who once knitted his own mitre, is going into the mail-order business with a new-style jacket. Bishop Rutt said he decided to market the flower-patterned garment after inquiries flooded in when he was pictured wearing it in a Sunday magazine. The “Bishop’s Jacket” will sell in kit form for about £4O (slls).—Leicester. Parents brawl A children’s soccer match in Blackpool had to be halted because of a brawl among parents on the sideline. Both teams, aged under 13, were fined and suspended after the fracas in which fathers punched and kicked each other and swore, the “Sunday Express” newspaper said. The Spirit of Youth and Our Lady sides were each fined £25 ($7O) and banned from playing until their parents gave an undertaking to a local Football Association that they would behave in future.— London.
