P.D. for woman who stabbed husband

PA Wellington A woman who stabbed her husband in the back has been ordered to do nine months periodic detention. Wendy Marilyn Angela Melrose, aged 40, was also fined $2500 for recklessly injuring another man. In the- High Court in Wellington Mr Justice McGechan placed Melrose under supervision. Special conditions are that' she must refrain from deliberate contact with her hus-

band or any of his women friends without permission from the probation officer. Melrose is also to take medical or psychiatric treatment as directed. She was found guilty at a trial last month of having caused David John Melrose grievous bodily harm with intent. Melrose was also found guilty of having with reckless disregard for the safety of others, injured Arthur Ira Knell, aged 73.

His Honour said Melrose walked toward her husband with arms outstretched seeking forgiveness and as they met she stabbed him in the back.

He said Melrose and her husband stayed together when they should have been apart.

Melrose was then approaching a state of emotional collapse and mental disorder, although falling short of legal insanity.
