Quiet Touch qualifies for Auckland Cup

Quiet Touch qualified for a start in the $300,000 Auckland Cup at Alexandra Park on January 30 with a narrow victory over Malaz and Loveridge in the Firestone Eurosteels Pace at Addington Raceway last evening.
Just when it looked as though Malaz and Lover-
idge had the finish to themselves, Quiet Touch worked clear from inside Premiership and burst on the scene with a splendid sprint which carried her to the front in the last few strides and enabled her to win by a neck going away.
Malaz, which had deadheated for first with Freightman in this race
12 months ago, held on gamely for second, a long head in front of Loveridge, with a gap to the rather disappointing favourite, Skipper Dale, and another to Freightman. Raced in partnership by Barry Barber, of Waikouaiti, Wayne Francis, of Springston, and Malcolm Shinn, whose brother, lan, trains her at
West Melton, Quiet Touch is a five-year-old by Boyden Hanover from Queen to Be. She has had only 19 starts and has gained 10 wins and six placings worth $92,100. She won the Ashburton Cup on Boxing Day, but was a rather disappointing fourth when a hot favourite for the Breeders’ Stakes last Thnrsdav
