Marijuana
Sir,—The claim by the Wellington founder of Concerned Parents About Drug Abuse that 90 per cent of Wellington teenagers have smoked marijuana should be taken seriously. From my experience, the figure would not •be as high in Christchurch, but I would put it at at least 40 to 50 per cent. While many claim that marijuana is a harmless drug, one only needs to spend 10 minutes with a regular user to see the obvious mental and attitudinal deterioration. Marijuana must not be treated lightly; its use should be punished just as severely as trafficking, otherwise we are wasting our time fighting it. — Yours, etc.,
