Traffic officers on routine patrols in Christchurch tested as many motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol at the week-end as did officers on checkpoints. From Friday evening to last evening, only four accidents, one of which involved injury, had been reported to the Ministry. “That indicates a very quiet week-end,” said Traffic Officer Kay. Two checkpoints were again working in Christchurch last evening. More than 1360 motorists were stopped by the Ministry’s two checkpoints on Saturday, night. The checkpoints were set up in Madras Street and Harper Avenue.
