Poole struggles
Sumner’s Keith Poole needs to win his final two games today to qualify for post-section play in the New Year triples bowls tournament which began at the week-end. The Christmas fours winner and his team-mates, Lance Main and Colin Thompson, began the section rounds on Saturday disastrously, losing their first game, 26-12, to Warwick Graham (Christchurch) and the second, 1410, to last season’s junior champion, Neil Anderson (Burwood). Poole managed to string together wins through the next three rounds, but only one came easily and he was a little lucky to pip Lee Schafer (Redcliffs), 15-14. But the big shock for Poole came in the last round yesterday when he was beaten for a third time — 17-16 by Alan Russell (Papanui), who had
only one previous win to his credit This leaves Poole with the challenge of having to win both his final two games today to qualify. The first should not present too many' problems, but his last opponent is the defending champion, Merv Robinson (Barrington), who has already qualified.
