Society welcomes science report
The New Zealand Computer Society has welcomed the recent release of the report of the Ministerial Working Party on Science and Technology. Mr Jim Higgins, the society’s president, said it was heartening to see the committee having such a sure grasp of the complexities involved. “It is to be hoped that faced with such a clear, well considered statement the Government will take
early steps to implement the recommendations and thus bring New Zealand’s research and development in science and technology to a level commensurate with its potential to contribute to our future welfare. We have lagged behind for too long.” Support from the Government and “postive leadership” had been lacking, but industry must also play its part, Mr Higgins said.
