Cabinet decision on land favoured
PA Wellington The Government was urged yesterday to stick with the Cabinet decision , on large areas of economic farmland, and place it with Landcorp. “Conservation and farming can go hand in hand, as the Lands and Survey Department has proved over many years,” said the president of Federated Farmers, Mr Peter Elworthy. He was commenting on efforts by the new Conservation Department to control the areas in question — a total of 212,904 ha, including Molesworth station in the South Island and Okiwi on Great Barrier Island. The Cabinet’s original intention was that the land should go to another new entity, Landcorp — “it should stick with this decision.”
