Hotel bar beer prices to rise

PA Auckland Drinkers will start paying more for their beer in hotel bars from this week. Between now and the start of next year, hotels will recover in prices the additional wage costs arising from recent award negotiations.. Jugs of beer will rise by up to 10c, and quart bottles about the same amount. The price of jugs will, therefore, range between $3 and $3.10 in most public bars. Spirit prices have risen recently in response to

price rises to publicans and are unlikely to be affected. Most hotels review their accommodation rates annually and these are not expected to rise immediately. Hancock and Company, a subsidiary of the Lion Corporation, which manages more than 100 hotels, is putting its beer prices up in bars this week. A spokesman said the cost of higher wages would be passed on to food and other prices soon.
