Armed man sought in Kaiapoi
The Christchurch armed offenders squad was called out to Kaiapoi last evening after an armed man threatened a young girl. The squad was mobilised at 9.47 p.m. after the man was first seen with a firearm, near the Kaiapoi Police Station and later with the girl, who was not known to him. Earlier in the evening several shots were fired into a Kaiapoi hotel. Noone was injured. The man had disapeared when the armed offenders squad arrived and had not been seen by early this morning. The offender was described as bearded, in his late 20s or early 30s, medium to stocky build, wearing army-type trousers and a dark Tshirt. The police were to patrol the township during the night.
