Jellie Park Pool
Sir,—l am a very angry ratepayer living in Waimairi. It is 11 a.m. on Sunday and our family have just returned from a closed Jellie Park Pool. The new hours for the pool are 12.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at week-ends, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on week-days (sorry, workers). This is totally unacceptable. Such an important and
well-appointed recreation area should be open for longer hours for all to enjoy. I understand that running costs for the pool are high and last year it lost money, but how can it hope to make good by offering totally unsuitable hours that only a minority of people could enjoy? — Yours, etc.,
(Mrs) pam McClintock. December 14, 1986.
[Mr P. W. Chapple, Waimairi District Clerk, replies: “Mrs McClintock’s points are well made. Following similar representations, the council, at its meeting on Wednesday, December 17, reviewed the pool hours for the current season, and as from last week-end the new hours will operate: week-days, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. It is trusted the new hours will meet the needs of not only Mrs McClintock’s family, but many others.”]
