Dickson sends thanks
Christchurch’s “Wool Lady,” Mrs Maureen Haynes, has received a letter of thanks from the skipper of KZ7, Chris Dickson, for a good-will rug. The metre-square rug, in KZ7 colours, was knitted by a friend, who preferred to remain anonymous, said Mrs Haynes.
It was sent with a special cargo of good-will messages to the New Zealand crew. The messages
were organised by Radio New Zealand’s “Tonight Show.” Dickson’s letter, which arrived on Christmas Eve, said the rug was “a lovely gesture and obviously took a long time on your part.”
“I can assure you it means so much to the crew to know that you are giving your support,” it said. The letter was signed by Dickson. Mrs Haynes said she
was impressed by Dickson’s taking the time to reply. She said plans were under way to send a red, white, and blue rug to Dennis Conner.
“I say good on him anyway, because he has made it more exciting.” Mrs Haynes said her next project would be to send a container of clothing and toys to Mother Teresa, a task she would begin at the end of January.
