Brent Todd joins Raiders

NZPA staff correspondent Sydney

The New Zealand rugby league representative, Brent Todd, has arrived in the Australian capital to begin a threeyear contract with the Canberra Raiders who play in the tough New South Wales premiership. The 22-year-old frontrow forward from Christchurch is fulfilling his ambition of playing firstgrade Australian club football. “It is about 30 times more professional here. You have got guys training here every morning — they just don’t seem to stop,” he said. “The first-grade matches over here will probably be harder than Test matches.”

Todd has played two tests for New Zealand, against France last year and against Australia in the third test this year. He has also represented. New Zealand at water polo.

Todd wanted to become part of the Australian club league scene after living in Sydney last summer and training with the New Zealand captain, Mark Graham, at North Sydney. The 185 cm and 97kg forward toured England and France with the Kiwis last year and broke into the test team for the third test against Australia in Brisbane after scoring three tries in . a tour match in Queensland.
