Port Moresby INTERNAL AUDITOR ~ The University of Papua New Guinea is in need of an experienced internal auditor to undertake challenging and varied duties at the University in Port Moresby. A statutory institution, the university comprises three campuses catering to over 2000 students and manages funds of approximately 20 million kina per year. Primary responsibility for the appointee is the setting up of an effective internal audit system to cover the wide range of activities within the university. This would include efficiency, operation and financial audits, audit inspections and investigations, and the reviewing and appraisals of the soundness, adequacy and application of accounting, financial and operating controls already in place. Plus the successful applicant would be required to ascertain the extent to which the university assets are accounted for and safeguard for any losses, the reliability of accounting and other data developed within the university, and how any changes would comply with established policies, plans and procedures. At regular intervals all members of management are to be presented with objective analyses, appraisals, recommendations and pertinent comments relating to activities under review. Further duties include the reporting of findings and recommendations to the central executive, assurance that all activities comply with Government requirements and the carrying out of additional assignments as directed by the Chief Executive from time to time. It is essential applicants have experience in internal audit, show strong accounting skills and developed system and audit control techniques. Professional communication skills are vital as the appointee is required to not only furnish numerous written reports and recommendations but also relate easily to staff at all levels. The initial contract period is for three years and offers an attractive remuneration package including a salary of K 20,165 plus gratuity and other considerations.
