SIDELINES
THE LEADING rumscorers in the senior women’s cricket competition for the first half of the season are Nicki Turner, 294, Anne McKenna, 273, Trudy Anderson, 246, and Debbie Ford and Lesley Murdoch, both 204. The leading wicket-takers are Karen Gunn, 35, Catherine Campbell, 22, Rebecca Millichip and Kirsty Bond, 16, and Delwyn Costello, 15. JIM GEDDES has stepped down as secretary of the New Brighton Rugby Club, after 31 years. He has also been the treasurer for the last 23 years, and will continue in that role. Paying tribute to Mr Geddes at the club’s recent annual meeting, the president, Bruce Penrose, described him as ‘‘a perfectionist and a gentleman.” New Brighton, he added, was very lucky to have had such an able man for so long. NOEL BAIN’S main role in golf nowadays is in selecting Canterbury teams, but the former Harewood Woodward Cup player remains a dab hand at playing the game. In the Canterbury Eagles Society tournament at Waitikiri on Tuesday, Bain, now out to an eight handicap, amassed 44 stableford points as he carded a par round of 71 on the testing course.
