Festive singing with Patsy
Following the success of her “Patsy Riggir Country” series earlier this year, Patsy Riggir will host TVNZ’s Christmas music special this evening (Christmas Eve) at 8.25 on One. She will show her versatility as an entertainer in the predominantly Christmas music programme recorded before an audience in the James Hay Theatre.
Featured with Riggir will be a line-up of top New Zealnd entertainers, including Bunny Walters, the “Our World” presenter Gael Ludlow, the 1986 Gold Guitar award winner, Vicki Galloway, the Telequest 1985 winner, Sharon Cunningham, the country singer, Jan Cooper, a Christchurch entertainer, Gary Hubbard, and an Auckland musician and musical director of the Mercury Theatre’s recent “West Side Story” production, Neil McGough.
Musical backing will be provided by a 25-piece orchestra under the musicial direction of Bernie Allen. It is the first time for a number of years that TVNZ has made its own Christmas music programme.
Riggir’s album featuring numbers from her “Patsy Riggir Country” series went straight to platinum with sales well in excess of 17,500 and was voted Country Record of the Year by the Record Association of New Zealand.
She won three professional country music recording awards in July this year — best female vocalist of the year, best album of the year (“You Remind Me Of A Love Song”), and top selling artjst of the year. She as also released a new gospel album for Christmas, “Close To Thee,” and a new single, “Silent Night,” which will feature in the television special.
