Mother drowns
PA Auckland A woman’s bid to save her son, aged six, from a rip in the Tamaki Estuary ended in tragedy yesterday when she drowned. She was Lea Moala, aged 32, of Mount Wellington. Her son and two teenage girls, who also rushed to help the boy, were
plucked to safety by a man in a dinghy. Mrs Moala was brought ashore near the Auckland Rowing Club but did not respond to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. The police praised the rescuer, Mr Ronald Wilson, of Howick, who had been working on his moored boat.
