‘Check cost of credit’
Christmas shoppers should be wary of buying anything on credit without finding out extra costs to be paid, according to the co-ordinator of the Christchurch Community Law Centre, Mr Lester Wolfreys. People should ask the total cost of using credit compared with the cash price, he said. The finance rate and associated costs such as interest and insurance all add to the cost. “Don’t be bullied into signing without understanding what you are doing and how much extra it will cost,” said Mr Wolfreys. Retailers also had a responsibility not to entice people into buying gifts which they could not afford, he said.
