‘Not the 10 O’clock News’

PA Wellington A British television comedy sprang to mind yesterday when a radio news reader was on air with nothing to read. “You have heard of Not the 9 O’clock News,” said the news reader on Radio New Zealand’s National programme. “Well, this is Not the 10

O’clock News. I have just heard there will not be a 10 o’clock bulletin because of industrial action.” The news was affected by a 24-hour strike by VDU operators protesting a breakdown in pay negotiations. The action was being supported by journalists.
