Tennis titles to Batie, Ratana

Andrew Batie and Lani Ratana won the open singles titles in the Rackets and RestringsFischer Canterbury secondary schools tennis championships which ended at Wilding Park yesterday.

Batie ended the fine run of the unseeded Brendon Furness who had toppled the top seed, Jeff Brightwell, in a very close semi-final match. Earlier Furness had upset another

seeded player, Justin Russell.

While Batie won his final comfortably enough the No. 1 girls seed, Ratana, was taken to three sets by her opponent, Ann Culhane, seeded third.
