Final Offer wins but Happy. Sunrise impressive second

Happy Sunrise lost few friends when he was beaten by Final Offer in the Air New Zealand Handicap at Addington Raceway last evening. Happy Sunrise broke at the start and was four seconds off the pace at the end of 200 m. Final Offer received a splendid run one off the fence and shot to the front more than 200 m out. He held on well and won by three-parts of a length, with Happy Sunrise cutting rapidly into his ad-, vantage. Happy Sunrise was still 15 lengths from the leader, Society Lord, 900 m from the finish. He began to improve a little from then on and was timed over his next 400 m section in 27.65. He made up many lengths in the run home and was far from disgraced.

Beau Peer finished quite well for third, ahead of Brown Loch and Tricky Tact, both of which appeared to have their chance.

Iffy Tryax wins

The under-rated Iffy Tryax advanced to a C 4 rating with a deserved win in the Hutton’s Royal Carve Handicap. After working into the open, she took the lead 900 m from the finish and held out Sunset Panorama and the early leader, Princess Halsey, quite convincingly. Nardin’s Belle came fast from far back for a close fourth, ahead of Loubeegin.

McMillan has two winners The Leeston trainer, Terry McMillan, produced the winners of both races for trotters. Kahura Pele was second favourite for the Quinns Fashion Handicap, a race he won from Flameaway and Roydon Pride. Three races later McMillan drove Lucky Yank to an all-the-way win in the Lion Brown Handicap. A 21/3 chance, Lucky Yank outfinished

Boford by a short length, with Four Leaf a moderate third.
