Lunches and dinners with transport theme

The focus of the Sandridge Hotel is the Trams Family Restaurant. It serves luncheons and dinner, and can seat 114, with extra capacity to 154 if the conference facilities are opened up. The restaurant sets the transport theme, which is in evidence throughout the building. On the walls hang photographs of old Christchurch buses and trams — a walk around the walls is an interesting trip through Christchurch’s past. The hotel management has a special debt of gratitude to the Tram

Society, at Ferrymead, and the Christchurch Transport Board for allowing them to reproduce many old photos from their records. At lunch, the menu consists of an appetiser, main course and sweets with all meals being served with chips and a variety of salads from the salad bar. The salad bar is one of the features of Trams Restaurant. It contains a minimum of eight varieties of dishes at a time. Soups are priced at $3.25, a shrimp cocktail $4.40, with a main course, such as gammon steak,

costing $10.50, and a grilled rib-eye, $12.50. A cold meat, salmon or vegetarian salad costs $B.lO, while sweets are all $3.50. Prices are G.S.T. inclusive.

The evening meal is of more lavish fare with appetisers, entree, main course and sweets. All meals are served with fresh vegetables or salads from the salad bar. The steaks may be served with garlic or pepper, chasseur or chef’s own sauce at no extra charge. Evening prices are the same as for luncheons.

Children are very well catered for. Included amongst their selections are such delights as a Galloping Gertie ham salad, Double Decker sandwich, fresh fruit salad and ice cream, or a chocolate-nut salad, as well as their favourite drinks like coke, lemonade or raspberry — all this for only $6.95 (including G.S.T.).
