New public lounge bar
“Just because the beer is cheaper, there is no reason why you cannot have good facilities.” This is the philosophy of the manager of the Sandridge Hotel, Mr Lindsay Vickers, and it certainly shows out in the decor of the new public lounge bar. “Since we opened on December 8, we have had an excellent response from our clients. They like drinking in lovely surroundings,” he said. The bar is very open and bright with rimu wood panelling around the serving area, lush carpet and very comfortable covered chairs.
“We have a very strong darts following, and these players are well catered for, but we were quite insistent when designing this building that there were going to be no pool tables installed,” Mr
Vickers said. Proceeds from other games of chance that are in the bar are actually channelled back through the bar in the way of Christmas drinks and decorations — “A form of green stamps for the customers.”
One of the great attractions of the bar is the outside courtyard area where people can sit in the sun while enjoying a few drinks. The serving area is accessible from the courtyard so patrons do not have to put their shirts or shoes back on just to order their drinks. Already, a jazz band played there last Saturday afternoon and another is booked in for the same time this week.
The large car park, with a capacity for 176 vehicles, makes parking no problems at the new Sandridge Hotel.
