Big range of new products
A huge number of new products have been released in the last two months as New Zealand manufacturers respond to competition from imported goods. Retailers were seeing more new products coming through now than in the last three years, said. Foodstuff’s marketing controller, Mr Warner Barber.
The easing of import licences had brought an influx of products from overseas and they were competing very well on the New Zealand market, he said.
Cadbury have released to two new chocolate products.
A new 200 g chocolate block called “White Top” blends a dairy milk base
with a white chocolate topping.
Since its recent release in Australia, “White Top” has shot to number two best seller behind Cadbury Dairy Milk. Timed for both Christmas and the peak tourist season, Cadbury have also released a 250 g box of fruit-flavoured chocolates called “Fruit Sensations.” New Zealand’s first mayonnaise spread and a range of honey-roasted nuts are two new products from Eta Foods. Praise Miracle Lite has been introduced to meet the rapid growth rate in the dressings market. Mayonnaise spread has been a product found in most American homes for 50 years and the company believes it will soon be-
come established here. Praise Miracle Lite comes in a 380 ml container.
Honey-roasted nuts have also found instant success overseas, capturing 15 per cent or more of the American market.
Already available on the imported Planters label, they will be marketed here in 50g and 150 g packets. Cashing in on the health craze, Beechams have recently introduced a new range of shampoos, conditioners and deodorants under the “Slazenger Fresh” label.
Normal to dry shampoos and conditioners are available in 200 ml containers, as well as a variety of deodorants and a talc.
Another Beecham product to sport a slick new look is Brylcream, with the addition of men’s styling mousse and gel. Brylcream research found an increasing number of men used mousses and gels but few products which catered specifically for men. The mousse comes in 150 g cans, while the gel is marketed in 125 g tubes. Returning to supermarket shelves this month after a three-year absence is Laundrine Pure Soap. Detergents have virtually overtaken the laundry cleaner market but the manufacturers, AHI McLeod Brothers, felt the brand could hold its own.

land Beef Roast. Advanced Foods have launched the Beef Roast as another no-waste convenience food. One roast serves four adults.
Plans are under way to launch both lamb and beef roasts in Pacific rim countries. The Beef Roast may also join its companion in Britain where the Lamb Roast is popular.
Advanced Foods have also made larger lamb and mutton roasts available to the catering trade.
Hard on the heels of the successful Appletise drink is the New Zealand Apple and Pear Board’s newests product, Grape tise.
A fizzy grape juice drink, Grapetise is expected to follow the success of its predecessor in 200 ml and 750 ml bottles.
