Most wool types unchanged on recent prices

Most wool types were unchanged in price compared with recent sales when Timaru and Christchurch wool sold at auction in Christchurch yesterday. According to the official report, the Merino fleece was unchanged and the Halfbred fleece was very firm and inclined in sellers’ favour when compared with the Dunedin sale on December 11.

Compared with the Napier sale on December 12, fine and medium crossbred fleece and crossbred second shear was unchanged, with the strong crossbred and the skirtings in buyers’ favour. The Wool Board gave support to the market by bidding on 14 per cent of the offering and having 3.3 per cent sold or passed to it. The competition opened hesitantly, then widened to be very general with a good bidding tone. The Far East, supported by Eastern Europe, dominated the bidding with useful support from Western Europe, Japan and local mills. The market indicator is 421 c greasy and 566 c clean. Clean prices
