Bowls prize increases
From
ROBIN CHARTERIS,

The Embassy world bowls championships at Coalbridge, near Glasgow, in February will carry prize money increased to more than £50,000 ($140,000). Three New Zealand bowlers are considered the biggest threat to British bowlers retaining the title. They are last year’s beaten finalist, Phil Skoglund, the world outdoor champion,
Peter Beiliss and the Commonwealth Games champion, lan Dickison.
The present title-holder is Britain’s Tony Allcock. The three-time champion, David Bryant, is also in the 32strong field, up by eight on last year’s invited entry. The matches, to be held indoors, will be decided on the sets format rather than 21 shots up.
The first prize is expected to be £13,000 ($36,400).
