Plans for tower delayed

Plans for a 50-storey tower in Victoria Square would not be available until early next year, developers said yesterday. Mr Jamie Tulloch, a spokesman for Tourist Towers, Ltd, said the company had hoped to release the plans before Christmas but was now unable to do so.

"We are awaiting the final design modifications and consultants’ reports. With the time of the year and the Christmas break upon us, these will not now be completed until New Year.”

Before releasing the plans, the company wanted to be sure the project was suited to the environmental senstivities of Victoria Square, said Mr Tulloch. The 167 m tower is being designed by the Christchurch architects, Warren and Mahoney. Planning permission will be sought from the Christchurch City Council early next year.
