Shipping venture

PA Wellington A new shipping operation was launched yesterday, involving international shipping company, Jebsens of Norway, and New Zealand’s largest exporter of manufactured goods, Tasman Pulp and Paper Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Fletcher Challenge, Ltd. The SNZ24O million joint venture would be the country’s largest shipping operation, the partners said, and

would greatly improve New Zealand exporters’ access to all Asian markets. To start with, the total operation would employ about 320 people. Tasman had invested in 50 per cent of the Jebsen line, which had served the Far East and South East Asia during the last eight years. The first shipment under the Tasman Jebsen flag was due to get under way later this month.
