Danger to cyclists

Sir,—On Thursday and Friday of last week when I was cycling on Riccarton Road, three people just felt it was quite all right to swing their car doors wide open without looking first. The first time I managed to stop quickly, look back at the man concerned and ask “Don’t you ever look first?” He gave a rude reply and across the road he walked, as if nothing had happened. If his door had just nicked my back wheel I would have been sent sprawling into passing and oncoming traffic. — Yours, etc.,

DAMIAN L. BENDALL. December 15, 1986.
