Crash started fire
PA Invercargill Strong winds and blustery conditions caused a car to crash into a power pole, killing a man, the Invercargill Coroner’s Court was told. The accident, in which a sheetmetal worker, Graeme Douglas Jones,
aged 39, died on October 28, damaged electricity cables and started a huge fire covering a large area of the Awarua Plains. The Invercargill coroner, Mr T. L. Savage, found the cause of death was severe chest injuries resulting in subsequent respiratory failure.
