Ann’s Globe has filly foal
Special correspondent Invercargill Ann’s Globe, Southland’s 1985-86 Broodmare of the Year, has foaled a filly by Yankee Jolter at Roydon Lodge Stud, Weedons.
The mare’s sixth foal was born a few hours before Tobago won on the first day of the Metropolitan Club’s Cup carnival at Addington. Ann’s Globe, the dam of Globe Pride (seven wins), Tobago (six wins) and Golden Blue (eight wins) is to be bred with Roydon Boy at Roydon Lodge Stud. Ann’s Globe, her three fine trotting winners apart, is also the dam of Montego, a three-year-old Sir Dalrae filly in work with Ray Jenkins, and Sheltex, a Majestic Chance colt which was sold at the 1982 National yearling sales in Christchurch.
Because of an age restriction placed on mares able to be bred with Game Pride, Ann’s Globe cannot be bred with the top stallion this season, but Jenkins is unconcerned, as he has plenty of faith in Roydon Boy, his associate sire.
Jenkins might also breed Globe Pride with Roydon Boy when she finishes racing, probably at the end of this season. Golden Blue earned further distinction for his family when he won the Toyota Starlet Mobile Trot at Addington last Saturday. Golden Blue was credited with a track and national record for a C 6 trotter over 2000 m in 2min 34.55.
