Planned layout

Care has gone into planning the layout of the new Riccarton Countdown.

“We have organised things so shoppers will pick up their frozen goods last. Most people spend half an hour in the supermarket, and it could be half an hour after that before they get home. They don’t want to have to worry about their frozen goods melting while they are choosing their other purchases,” says Riccarton Countdown’s manager, Mr Colin Taylor.

“We have put the fruit and vegetables first — we have found people like this. It has been popular in our Sydenham store,” he says. Mr Taylor, who was for 20 months the manager of Countdown’s Sydenham outlet, has been with the company since it began. For three and a half years, he was groceries manager at the Northlands Countdown. Before joining Countdown, he had his own businesses, a dairy and a restaurant.
