Cricket rout to N.S.W.

NZPA-AAP Newcastle New South Wales won the scheduled four-day clash against England at Newcastle Sports Ground after lunch on the third day yesterday. Set 99 to win after England had collapsed in its second innings ending yesterday morning for 82, N.S.W. completed the task less than an hour after lunch yesterday afternoon. Dirk Wellham was not out 29 and Mark O’Neill not out 13 with N.S.W. winning by eight wickets. This was the first win by N.S.W. over England since Richie Benaud performed the feat in 1962. England made 197 in its first innings and N.S.W. was all out for 181 on Saturday, but a hostile pace attack by Mike Whitney and Dave Gilbert had England reeling at 66 for nine at stumps on Saturday. It required only 26 minutes yesterday morning for England to be all out for 82.
