Burdite expected to outclass rivals

Special correspondent Invercargill Burdite may have the measure of “ordinary” opposition pitted against him in the Macauley Motors 50th Jubilee Stakes at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill tomorrow. Burdite, one of the most promising intermediate gallopers in Canterbury, hinted at his staying potential when a splendid fourth in the Otaio Plate on the third day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Cup meeting at Riccarton

last Saturday. Still a relatively inexperienced performer, he possesses the potential to graduate well beyond his present rating. Burdite will be confidently expected to give a good account of himself against this small field. Kade is getting no younger and is hardly at the stage of his career when much improvement can be expected. For all that, an established galloper of his worth could hardly strike a better opportunity to post another success.

If Burdite can win the first leg then his stablemate, Satiny’s Pride, may complete the double for Ray Pankhurst in the Animal Remedies Dash, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. The Noble Bijou mare won this race last year and demonstrated her mastery of Southland opposition when she bolted in on the first day of the Gore meeting. Connie Lawn, which resumed on a winning note at Wyndham, may offer Satiny’s Pride most opposition.
