Argonaut Style due to return to winning form

Special correspondent Auckland All the signs are that Argonaut Style will return to winning form pretty soon, perhaps at the Northern Wairoa Racing Club’s meeting at Dargaville today. After winning the Wellington Derby, Argonaut Style failed in five further attempts last season to come up with a performance anywhere near as good but his two efforts since back from a spell have been much more encouraging. In each of the two, at Pukekohe, then Rotorua, Argonaut Style finished second, beaten the second time, over 1900 m at Rotorua, by only a nose.

Aronaut Style is likely to have improved further

with his race at Rotorua. If he continues to train on a good Summer Handicap would not be too much to expect of him. Argonaut Style faces no easy task, though, in today’s D.B. Northland Cup. Several on his opponents are capable of running the 2000 m very solidly. One is Jumblelak, another King Randell, which won a 2000 m in good style at Stratford in his latest start, on November 7. After looking so promising as a three-year-old King Randell was campaigned in Australia where he developed useful middle-distance form. The Stratford race was his fifth since he returned to Cambridge.

Jumblelak, now a 4-year-old, came through last summer with a rush

of good form — three wins and five placings in eighth successive attempts. One of her minor placings was a close third in the Avondale Championship Stakes and she was earlier third in the Great Northern Oaks.

Jumblelak just failed to last 2000 m at Paeroa on November 11 but the run might have been all she needed to come home a winner this next time.

Patricia, so good up to 1600 m has to be respected even though required to give away weight all round. Carlos Lopez and Wi Rakau have shown promise as middle-dis-tance runners and it is to be hoped Brooke Bond and Roubles gain starts. They look real lightweight possibilities.
