Lengthy prize list for competitors
A sparkling array of prizes has been assembled for “The Press” Garden City Classic to be played tomorrow and Sunday. The winning team of four will each receive a canteen of silver cutlery. The members of the second team will receive a Spalding golf bag each, and the third place getters will receive coffee makers.
The tournament will be a stableford competition with the points of the four players in each team over the two rounds combined.
Such has been the generosity of businesses in Canterbury that prizes will be presented as far as the 30th placed team. Among the prizes lower down the list are two sets of KZ7 sweatshirts.
Prizes have been donated largely by firjns who are not sponsoring holes,
and the chairman of the organising committee, Rob Irwin, said he and his fellow committee members were extremely appreciative of the generosity of those firms which had donated prizes, and also of those who have sponsored holes.
Besides the team prizes there will be some individual events worth winning. There will be a nearest the pin contest and the winner will receive a return trip for two to Rotorua courtesy of Mount Cook Airlines.
There will be a putting competition <m the putting green in front of the clubhouse and the winner will receive a Spalding golf bag.
Any player who scores an eagle in either round will receive a battery from Amalgamated Batteries, and the man and
woman recording the longest drive at a designated hole on each day of the tournament will receive a prim from Hancods Wines and Spirits.
