Aghanistan

Sir,—l wonder what the Soviet Embassy has to say about the testimony of a Danish doctor, Erik Holm Hansen (November 17). Dr Hansen recently Visited’ Southern Afghanistan on a clandestine, medical fact-finding tour. He found indisputable evidence of extensive use of napalm by the Soviets against civilian populations. He said that Soviet helicopters were dropping 500 kg

napalm bombs on civilians and partisans alike. He also personally treated several children who had been maimed by bombs disguised as butterflies; pens or toy cars. This practice, designed to maim rather than kill for maximum psychological impact, is a well-documented Soviet practice in Afghanistan. The Soviets have killed over a million people in Afghanistan. Their cruelty and barbarism surpasses that of the Nazis, yet New Zealand still supplies the Soviet Union with below-cost meat and wool. Have we no shame?— Yours, etc., i- T. R. LOUDON. 1 November 20, 1986. i ■ ■■
