Chase from T.A.B. ends in triumph
PA Auckland Staff and a customer at a T.A.B. agency chased and caught a man who tried to place a bet on the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday using counterfeit notes. The man went into the Surrey Crescent betting agency in Grey Lynn and tried to pass five counterfeit $2O notes 10 minutes before the race.
The T.A.B. agent, Mr George Crisford, said the man made a $lOO place bet on horse, No. 7, Our
Sophia, handing over notes which he recognised immediately as fakes. The notes were blurred and did not have a watermark.
Mr Crisford and one of his customers, Mr Simon Stevenson, a storeman, chased the man about 400 m before catching him and handing him over to the police.
It was the second time counterfeit notes have been passed at the agency.
