Britons expelled for drinking
NZPA-Reuter London Saudi Arabia has expelled 35 British medical workers, 25 of them women, after the police raided an illegal drinks party in Riyadh. The - British Foreign Office, which described the scale of deportations as unusual, said those expelled were put on a
plane yesterday. The expulsions came after the police found alcohol — illegal under Saudi law — at the party at a military hospital in September, and after a motoring incident in which three women were arrested, a spokesman said.
Six people at the party were arrested and the
rest had fffeir identification papers photocopied and were told not to break the law. On October 24, three British women were arrested in the motoring: incident. The spokesman added: “It is not unusual for foreigners to be deported. What is unusual is the scale of the deportation.”
