N.Z. third in golf
PA Wellington New Zealand, spearheaded by a composed final round by Glenn Goldfinch, recovered to finish third in the Colombian invitation amateur golf tournament at Bogota yesterday. Goldfinch, of Auckland, shot a par 72 while Canterbury’s Brent Paterson recorded a disappointing 79 for New Zealand, which had led the tournament for the first two rounds, to aggregate 595 and edge out Mexico and West Germany for third place by a stroke. The tournament was easily won by Denmark. It totalled 582 and one of its players, Jacob Rasmussen, finished top in the individual rankings after shooting a three under par 69 in yesterday’s good conditions at the El Ricon club. The Netherlands was second, just a point ahead of New Zealand. Goldfinch finished third in the individual rankings after blotting out his chances of a higher place with a disastrous third round 79. His par round yesterday included three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars.
