N.Z.-Canada flight links
Air New Zealand flies to Canada once a week from Auckland, but eleven other flights connect at Los Angeles with Air Canada services to Canadian destinations. Air New Zealand’s direct service is a Boeing 747 from Auckland to Vancouver, via Honolulu. Air New Zealand’s Vancouver service has the added bonus of a convenient southbound transfer at Honolulu to Christchurch’s "Southern Connection” flights. The Vancouver flights leave from Auckland on Sundays, and South Island travellers can make it direct back to Christchurch — by-passing Auckland — on Tuesdays. Air New Zealand’s 11
flights a week to Los Angeles offer convenient connections to Air Canada’s 50 flights a week to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal. Other centres can be reached by connecting with different carriers. An around-the-world fare is also offered by Air New Zealand in conjunction with Air Canada. Air New Zealand’s North American services are flown by Boeing 747 jet aircraft, carrying up to 417 passengers at 900 km/ h. In first, business and economy classes, drinks, headsets for the inflight entertainment channels, and meals, are all free. The airline take a particular pride in the meals and wines served on
board. It acts as a flying showcase for the best of fresh New Zealand produce, and the wines have won the title Best Airline Wine each year that the competition has been run by the UK’s “Business Traveller” magazine. Other accolades earned against the toughest of foreign competition are Best Carrier to the Pacific “Executive Travel” and Best Foreign Carrier (in the US-published “Travel Holiday” magazine) for six consecutive years.
