Apple better on flat sales

The net income and i earnings per share of Apple Computer, Inc, more than doubled in the ' year ended September 26. Net income increased 151% to SUSIS4M, compared with SUS6I.2M. Earnings a share were up 141% at 239 c (99c). Sales, however, were slightly down: 5U51.902 billion (SUSI.9IB billion). Gross margins as a percentage of net sales were 53.3% for the fourth quarter and 53.1%.f0r the full year. For the year past periods, gross margins were 45.9% and 41.7%, respectively. Mr John Sculley, chairman and chief executive officer, said: “Apple has made substantial progress throughout fiscal 1986 as our second-half revenue gains and significant earnings improvement indicate.”
