Trading halted
Stockbrokers halted trading on India’s largest stock exchange in protest against a ban on forward trading imposed after raids by incometax officials on the offices of several brokers' last week. Brokers said exchange authorities kept the market open for trading, but ordered that all deals should be on a spot delivery basis and paid for in cash. They could not say if trading would resume on the exchange, which transacts one third of the total value of shares traded daily on India’s 14 stock exchanges.
