F.O.L. move on wage talks

in Wellington The Federation of Labour is expected to put a formal proposal to employers this week to reopen talks on a centralised wage deal. The F.O.L. national
executive will consider the issue at a meeting today, and is almost certain to give support, not least because the unionist who raised the idea last week, the advocate for the stores award, Mr Mike Jackson, did so only after discussion with other leading F.O.L. unionists. So far only two important awards have been settled — drivers and commercial printers —-
while more than 30 sets of negotiations have been either adjourned or broken down completely. The director of advocacy for the Employers’! Federation, Mr Steve Marshall, said the initiative would be discussed at an already scheduled series of employer meetings around New Zealand this.week. He indicated, however, that the response might be less than enthusiastic,
