Support Group register

Neighbourhood Support Groups which have not registered with the police are being asked to get in touch with the Christchurch City Council.

The council’s community advisor, Mr Alistair Graham, said a central register of Neighbourhood Support Groups was being compiled. Many groups

had been formed but had not registered with either the police or the council.

Mr Graham said groups could notify the council of their existence by telephoning 791-660, extension 521. The information would remain confidential.

A register would help

the council and the police organise seminars and in-formation-sharing schemes.

“The exercise will also identify where support groups do not exist and efforts will be made to encourage their establishment in these areas,” said Mr Graham.
